Born in Doniphan, to Lewis “Louie” and Dorothy (Stein) Dawes. Dennis married the love of his life, Susan “Sue” Stevens, in 1975. Dennis' world revolved around his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud and supportive father and grandfather. He cherished time spent in the woods with his family and friends: gathered around the campfire enjoying food, sharing stories, and even the occasional big buck. His summers were spent on the river—fishing, boating, hanging out with family and friends, and hauling around Sue's rocks and drift wood finds.
Dennis is survived by his two sons, Jeff (Nickole) Dawes, Denny (Linda) Dawes, and step-son, Rick (Sherri) Nance; his grandchildren, Josh, Faith, Aedan, Kaden, Lily, Aisley, and Hazel; his sister, Goldie Kay Diehl; friends who were like brothers, Tim Farris, Duck Kampwerth, Randy Whiteside and Rocky Whiteside, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Dawes; parents, Louie and Dorothy Dawes; and his brothers, Bill and Ronnie Dawes.
A service will be held at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan, Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 9-11 a.m., with Randy Whiteside officiating. A Celebration of Life will follow the service. Family and friends are invited to share food and memories at The American Legion in Naylor, MO from 1:00-5:00p.m.
