Dennis Frank Chaligoj, 78, passed away Friday, February 6, 2026, at Riverways Manor in Van Buren, Missouri. Dennis lived a life rooted in hard work, deep relationships, and a genuine love for the simple pleasures that made life rich.
Born February 23, 1947, in Doniphan, Missouri, he was the son of the late Frank and Ruby Jewell (Brooks) Chaligoj. Dennis built a successful career in Chrysler auto manufacturing, serving as a paint supervisor in St. Louis—a role that reflected both his attention to detail and steady leadership. He was a devoted member of Stockton Christian Church and lived his faith quietly but faithfully.
Dennis found joy outdoors and never missed a chance to enjoy nature or good company. Whether he was fishing or hunting, taking scenic drives around the lake, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, tending to his landscaping, or gathering at fish fries with family and friends, Dennis believed life was best enjoyed together. He had a gift for conversation and built friendships wherever he went.
On June 17, 1995, Dennis married the love of his life, Tonna Reed, in St. Louis. Their marriage was one of companionship, laughter, and shared adventures. Tonna survives him.
Dennis is also survived by his children, Morgan Lyons of Brentwood, Tennessee, and Tennille Lyons of Jerseyville, Illinois; his brothers, Berry (Linda) Chaligoj, Tom Chaligoj, and Rob Chaligoj; his cherished grandchildren, Dale Reiser, Chloe Lyons, Evie Lyons, and Ben Lyons; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, many dear friends, and his loyal four-legged companion, Holly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Brenda Whitwell; and cousins Vicki Rogers, Charlotte Crumley, and Rita Hilton.
Visitation will be held at Edwards Funeral Home on Saturday, February 14, 2026, beginning at 12:00 p.m., with funeral services to follow at 1:00 p.m. Brother Mike Tunnell and Brother Alan Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Dennis will be remembered for his kindness, his easy smile, his love of the outdoors, and the way he made time for people. His presence will be deeply missed, but his stories, laughter, and legacy of friendship will live on.
