Barry Wayne Hartzell, 60-year-old resident of Wappapello, MO, departed this life Sunday, January 25, 2026. He was born June 17, 1965, in St. Louis, MO, to the late Katie Marvine Spratt.
A member of the Doniphan R-I 1984 graduating class, Barry had strong ties to the Doniphan community, the outdoor activities, and many local family members and friends. In addition to being outdoors and hunting, Barry enjoyed tinkering with models in his spare time. Following his high school graduation, he had proudly served in the United States Navy. He later built a career as a river boat engineer, traveling the Mississippi River.
On May 24, 2014, Barry married Tammy (White) Hartzell in Poplar Bluff, MO. She survives. Also surviving is his daughter, Samantha Hartzell of Poplar Bluff, MO, and his aunt, Karen (Doug) Williamson.
In addition to his mother, Barry was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Eddie and Ethel Davis, who also helped raise him.
Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, February 2, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at noon. Burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with full military honors.
