James Loyd Cora, 70-year-old lifetime resident of Doniphan, MO, departed this life Monday, January 5, 2026. He was born December 5, 1955, in Ripley County, MO, to the late John Loyd and Alice (Abbott) Cora.

Known to family and friends as Loyd, he was a skilled logger and diesel mechanic. He didn’t consider this work because to him it was a rewarding challenge to work on vehicles. Loyd also had a “green thumb” and enjoyed living off the land. He found joy in gardening and reaping the rewards of his labor, as well as spending time fishing and hunting. Coming from a large family, Loyd learned early in life the importance of family and cherished spending time with all of his family.

Loyd was married to Joy Mae Gooch. She preceded him in death on August 21, 2021. He was also preceded by his parents; his sisters, Viola Wallace, Audrey Whitaker, and Mary Stuflebean; and brothers, Hank Stufflebean and Randy Cora.

Surviving are his children, Sheila Cora Nance of Doniphan, Barbara Brown of Bessemer, AL, Linda Cora of Doniphan, Wayne Brooks, also of Doniphan, Johnny Lyles of Gatewood, Stephen Stwalley of Dallas, TX, and Connie Brooks of Arkansas; his brothers, Eli Cora of Doniphan, Jimmy Cora of Kennett, MO, and Andy Stufflebean of St. Louis, MO; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
