Dorothy May (Meekins) Townsend, 91year-old resident of Grandin, MO, departed this life Monday, January 12, 2026. She was born in Rover, MO, in Howell County to the late Robert Howard and Fern Avis (Miler) Meekins. Dorothy spent her life rooted in the values of hard work, family, and self-sufficiency.

Dorothy was employed at Vitronic, where she worked until her retirement. Though she was dedicated to her work, her greatest devotion was always to her family. Dorothy found joy in living and working on her homestead. She enjoyed raising chickens, which were both cherished pets and a source of food. She also always had a loyal farm dog by her side who was a faithful companion through the years. Gardening was another of her passions, and she took pride in tending her garden and reaping the rewards of her hard work. A skilled seamstress and quilter, Dorothy created beautiful quilts that were admired and treasured.

On May 20, 1950, Dorothy married Louis S. Townsend in Piggott, AR. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded by a son Louis Townsend, Jr.; and sisters, Roberta, Beverly, and Linda.

Surviving are her children, Sandra (Clifford) Ferrell of Grandin, Susan Knapp, also of Grandin, Anna Nance and Judy Tillman, both of Doniphan, and John (Tammy) Townsend of Grandin; a sister, Ruth of Salem, MO; and a brother, James (Mary) Meekins of Doniphan. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandin-Carter Cemetery with her grandson, Dan Townsend officiating.
