Rickey “Rick” Alan Smith, 65, of Doniphan, MO, departed this life Friday, December 12, 2025, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, MO. He was born January 30, 1960, in St. Louis, MO, to the late Charles and Janath (Roberts) Smith.
Known as “Smitty”, he spent much of his life working as a log cutter and skidder driver. He truly loved the outdoors and would spend time running his dogs and listening to their familiar bark. He also spent time enjoying the river. Smitty liked to play softball and was always proud to be a contributing member of the team. He was a beloved member of his family and friend to all who knew him. With his outgoing and warm personality, he never met a stranger. They were only friends he hadn’t yet gotten to know. His presence brought warmth, laughter, and camaraderie wherever he went. Smitty had studied under the Jehovah Witness teachings.
Rick married his loving wife, Vickie (Williams) Smith, at Oak Ridge Briar Church. She survives. Also surviving are his children, Jan Smith and Von Smith, both of Doniphan; a sister Lisa Hutson of Doniphan; and grandchildren, Jessica, Jed, Kelsie, Mason, and Eli, all of whom loved to hear Papa’s stories. He also leaves behind Uncle Bob, who was like a dad to Rick, and Aunt Joan, who was also very important to him when he was growing up.
In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him, Bill and Vernie Roberts, and a daughter, Tonya Michel.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Pine Cemetery.
