Gary Steven Reeves, 80, of Doniphan, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Dec. 7, 2025. He was born on Nov. 28, 1945, in St. Louis, Mo., to the late Roy and Beulah Reeves.
Gary was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janice (Wilson), and their children: Steven (Amanda) Reeves, Jennifer (Jody) Cheek, and Michael (Lacy) Reeves. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Geneva Katsumis.
Gary was a graduate of Doniphan High School, Class of 1964, and went on to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he continued to pursue his love of learning and personal growth. After college he honorably served his country in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971, working as a Specialist 4th Class teletype operator during the Vietnam War. His service reflected the dedication, steadiness, and quiet strength that defined him throughout his life.
He took great joy in his large and loving family. His grandchildren – Gabe Reeves, Abigal Reeves, Jordan Reeves, Maghen (Trextin) Voyles, Isaiah (Darby) Reeves, Kaylee, Emilee and Preslee Cheek, Ella, Owen and Vaeda Reeves who all brought endless pride and laughter into his life. Gary was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Theo, Torin, Maevis Voyles, and Toullie Reeves, each dearly cherished.
Gary began his career as the first branch manager of Southern Missouri Savings and Loan in Doniphan. He retired from Southern Bank in 2007 closing a career marked by dedication, integrity, and a genuine commitment to the people he served.
A man of faith, Gary was saved and baptized in August 2004, and he attended Faith Life Christian Church.
A lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, Gary's love for baseball began in childhood. He fondly recalled riding the trolley with friends in St. Louis to watch his beloved Cardinals play - memories that stayed with him throughout his life. He continued to enjoy attending games whenever he could. Gary also had a passion for learning; he spent countless hours reading and watching historical documentaries, always eager to explore and understand the past.
We already miss him dearly, but we know we will see him again.
Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, December 12, 2025, beginning at 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Wilson, and Pastors Alan and Jody Wilson will be officiating.
