Carolyn Rae Broyles, 74-year-old resident of Doniphan, MO peacefully went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, while her family was by her side. She was born December 11, 1950, in Streator, IL, to the late Raymond and Fern (Royce) Missel.

Carolyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who adored her family and treasured every moment with them. While traveling to Colorado, Tennessee, or Illinois to visit her children, she found beauty and enjoyment in nature and animals around her. She was always up for an adventure, including a road trip with her favorite sister, Kim, to Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico, where they only took the backroads.

Growing up with four rowdy brothers and a feisty younger sister, who lovingly called her “Missy”, Carolyn developed a sense of humor and love for music. Being from such a large family and raising one of her own allowed her to have a forever youthful spirit. She was always looking to rematch her grandchildren in a game of basketball or playing in the Current River. Her legacy of faith, humor, forgiveness, adventure, and a requested-at-every-family-gathering cherry cheesecake will live on through her children and their children and generations to come. For that, her family is forever grateful that they got to have Carolyn as their mom.

Carolyn married David Broyles on January 10, 1970, and he preceded her in death in 2019. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Randy Missel.

Surviving are her children, Steve (Marsha) Broyles of Bardley, MO., Chad (Kim) Broyles of Streator, IL., Jason (Christine) Broyles of Watertown, TN., Shannan Hermann of Millbrook IL., Monica (Dave) Kuntz of Berthoud, CO., and Jon (Brandi) Broyles of Doniphan, MO.; a sister, Kim (Dave) Taylor of El Paso, IL.; and brothers, Gary (Eleanor) Missel of Asheville, NC., Thomas (Malee) Missel of Bellevue, NE., and Craig (Jan) Missel of Palm Harbor, FL. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Trevor Broyles, Troy Broyles, Kenda (Broyles) Kruz, Conner Broyles, Claire Broyles, Jayson Shirley, Aiden Hermann, Landon Kuntz, Madelyn Kuntz, Jayden Broyles, Payton Broyles, Laney Broyles and six great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the caregivers with Crown Hospice for their compassionate and professional care for their mom.

The family will have a private memorial at a later date.
