Obituary of James Austin Geter

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

James Austin Geter born October 18, 1952 in a 2 room Shanty in the middle of a cotton field in the delta of Mississippi.  The son of Earnest Earl Geter and Lillian Ruth (Thornburg) Geter.  He had three sisters and three brothers.  He was preceded in death by both parents and all his brothers and 2 sisters.

James grew up in a home where everyone worked hard.  Both parents stressed God, Family and Country and the home was one of love.  Life was hard but there was always food on the table.  There was always Bible and Prayer before bedtime every night.

James was a Vietnam Veteran and spent 15 years in the military before getting out.  God blessed James and he got his associates degree in Business administration in 1988 and his bachelor degree in Business Management in 1991.

James has always been a prayer warrior and was not afraid to witness for Jesus Christ.  He witnessed in the VA Hospital, on the telephone to solicitors, to anyone who would listen.

James loved sports, hunting, fishing, flowers, gardening and definitely family picnics at his farm in Doniphan.  He gave “God” credit for who he had become over the last 30 years.   Later in life he met the love of his life Edna they married July 1, 2000 at Calvery Church in Poplar Bluff.  He was blessed with 8 children, 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.  James and his wife Edna love them all the same.

He leaves behind him the “Prayer that he will see you all in Heaven and meet you at the pearly gates.  If you don’t see him at first he said he would be at his ‘Lord Jesus Christs” feet.

“To Live is Christ, to die is gain”

Phillipians 1:21
