Obituary of Barb Gatewood

Barbara Gatewood, a beloved 87-year-old resident of Doniphan, MO, departed this life Friday, March 21, 2025. She was born in Reno, AR, on March 11, 1938, to the late John Franklin and Thelma (Spencer) Pratt.

Barb was a dedicated professional who had worked as a secretary/office manager for Blackwell-Baldwin and later continued her career as a realtor for Strout Reality. She was deeply involved in the Doniphan Community and was an active and cherished member of the Doniphan Senior Center “family”. Barb volunteered countless hours there and served on the board. Barb was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Doniphan United Methodist Church. Topping her plans for each week were her weekly trips to the beauty shop, a testament to her bright and vibrant spirit.

On October 13, 1956, Barb married Ruel Gatewood in Doniphan. They had celebrated 65 years of marriage before his passing on November 21, 2021. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded by a brother, Bill Franklin.

Surviving is a sister, Linda Wilson of Doniphan; sister-in-law, Barbara Pyles of Pitkin, LA; brother-in-law, Richard Gatewood of Doniphan; and many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at noon. Officiating will be Reverend Tim Thompson, Reverend Ernest Stephens, and Pastor Kent Wilfong. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery.
