Obituary of Margaret Alice Hopwood

Margaret Alice Hopwood, 92, of Marion, AR, departed this life Monday, December 20, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Crittenden in West Memphis, AR. She was born January 23, 1929, in Fairdealing to the late Jesse Swaers Slayton and Effie Mae Ward Slayton. After studies at SEMO State University and Arkansas State University, Margaret taught school for several years. Later she worked as the office manager for SEMO Aviation. She was a doting mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and loved to cook. Margaret was an active member of the First Christian Church of Malden for more than 50 years. Margaret married Glen E. Hopwood on May 25, 1950, and they were married for 59 years before he passed away in 2009. She was preceded in death by two sons, Reggie Hopwood and Bradley Hopwood; her sisters, Jessie Woodard and JoAnn Herrick; and brothers, Glenn Slayton, Norman Slayton, Earl Slayton, and Jerry Slayton. She is survived by her son, Rance Hopwood (Gail) of Vienna, VA; daughter-in-law, Kandi Hopwood of Marion, AR; brother, Roger Slayton (Lolita) of Poplar Bluff; grandchildren, Tori Ann Fraley (Wes) and Nick Hopwood; great-granddaughters, Emma Fraley and Harper Fraley and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Ward Cemetery with Brother Kent Wilfong officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
