William Bertrand “Bert” Emmons, 88-year-old resident of Doniphan, MO, departed this life Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, MO. He was born January 7, 1933 in Ripley County to the late Ellis B. and Cecil Faye (Burton) Emmons. Bert served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, earning him recognition from Matt Blunt who was the governor at that time. After making a career of the military, he raised cattle and baled hay back home in Ripley County. Bert was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. On July 2, 1958, Bert married Helen Mae Richmond. She preceded him in death on June 7, 2008. Being the last of his generation, Bert was also preceded in death by his siblings, Carlos E. Emmons, twins, Howard E. Emmons, Harold E. Emmons, Katherine Maxine Emmons, Geneva Elaine Emmons, Robert E. Emmons, and Carmen Emmons. Surviving is his son, Burkey Emmons of Doniphan. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Edwards Funeral Home beginning at noon. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Justin Francis and Kevin Payne officiating. Burial will be in Bellview Cemetery.
