LaRae Wallace, 70-year-old resident of Mount Vernon, IL, departed this life Saturday, September 19, 2020. LaRae was born December 8, 1949 in Minneapolis, MN to Jannette Short. LaRae lived most of her childhood in Ripley County, MO. After graduating from Doniphan High in 1968, she accepted a music scholarship to SEMO University. She left college to marry her high school sweetheart, Gary Wallace. They were wed on December 28, 1968.
LaRae worked as an administrative assistant with the Social Security Administration and was of the Church of God faith. LaRae’s greatest joys were playing and teaching piano, spending time with Gary and their beloved dog, Bear.
LaRae is survived by Gary and Bear of Mount Vernon, her brother, Danny Short and his wife Taleana of Doniphan; nephews, Zachary (Lindsay) Short, Malakye Short of Jonesboro, AR and Andrew Short of Colorado Springs, CO, as well as many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and two great nephews.
Services for LaRae will be held Friday, September 25, 2020 in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and funeral services will be at 12:00 with Pastor Danny Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Doniphan Cemetery.
