I am so sorry to hear that Velma Porter passed away. I worked with her when I worked at the Ava Office of the U.S. Forest Service in the late 80's or early 90's. I am so sorry. I am praying for your family. Keep your faith in God. She was a very fine lady. May God Bless you and wrap his loving arms around your family. In Christian Love, Leona Bauer (Thorpe)

Velma was my supervisor when I first came to work for the Forest Service in 1997. I will always remember how kind, helpful, and encouraging she was to me. I valued her friendship a great deal. Ruth Collins

Rose Beyond the Wall by A.L. Frink A rose once grew where all could see, sheltered beside a garden wall, And as the days passed swiftly by, it spread its branches, straight and tall... One day, a beam of light shone through a crevice that had opened wide ~ The rose bent gently toward its warmth then passed beyond to the other side Now, you who deeply feel its loss, be comforted ~ the rose blooms there ~ its beauty even greater now, nurtured by God's own loving care. Velma was a dear and close friend to me for many years. I will always hold her close to my heart.
