Obituary of Betty Jean Hoefer

Betty Jean Hoefer, 91, of Eureka, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Ms. Hoefer, daughter of Carl Louis and Mazie Marjorie (Turner) Hoefer, was born October 20, 1925, at Doniphan, Missouri. She had been a physical education teacher, teaching levels from elementary through junior college. Ms. Hoefer enjoyed fishing, tennis, golf, traveling and music. She was also a sports enthusiast and delighted in attending the St. Louis Cardinals baseball games and following the Rams ballgames through the sports media. She had a special love for her nieces and nephews. Ms. Hoefer was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are 5 sisters: Marjorie Thompson of Le Grand, Oregon, Mary Nenninger of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Shirley Whitelock and Martha Hoefer, both of Eureka, Missouri, and Rosie (and G.M.) Smith of Springfield, Illinois; 2 brothers, Jack (and Lee) Hoefer of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Joe Hoefer of Doniphan, Missouri; and 4 generations of multiple nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 sister, Frances Tooke, and 4 brothers-in-law, Howard Tooke, John Thompson, Bernard Nenninger and John Whitelock. Visitation will begin at 10:30 Saturday morning, April 8, 2017, at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Bob Featherston officiating. Burial will be in the Doniphan City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
