The Rev. Wendell K. Patterson was born July 10, 1914, on a farm near Pleasant Hope, MO, and passed away on June 21, 2007, at the age of 92, at Fairview, OK. His parents were James G. and Edna Mae (Cowden) Patterson. His received a Master of Divinity degree in 1938 from the McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois, and began his ministry at Doniphan, MO, in May, 1938. He was married to Miss Barbara Whitlow at Doniphan on August 6, 1939. They shared in each pastorate the work of the church and community for nearly 57 years before her death in 1996. Rev. Patterson was an area correspondent for Christian Century magazine, Enid News and Eagle and Mature Living. He was a member and chaired numerous committees of Kiwanis Clubs in each of the communities where he lived. The Pattersons were well-traveled. They had visited all 50 states, many Canadian Provinces, and several European countries. Rev. Patterson is survived by Harold of Boise, Idaho, and Ann Martens and husband, Mike, of Fairview, OK.; and four grandchildren, Andrew and Carrie Martens and Toni and Robin Patterson. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister, wife Barbara, and son, Douglas. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2007, at the Doniphan City Cemetery.
