Velda “Jean” Phillips, 72, of Grandin, Missouri, died Monday, March 27, 2017, at her residence in rural Ripley County. Mrs. Phillips, daughter of Winston and Virginia (Jameson) Kiser, was born June 21, 1944, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She had been a PAT instructor and Head Start teacher for the East Carter County School District. Mrs. Phillips enjoyed sewing, cooking, fishing, working in her yard and being with her children and grandchildren. She attended Grandin Congregational Church. On September 30, 1962, she was married to Ernie Phillips at Grandin, Missouri, and he survives. Also surviving are 3 children: Kevin (and Eva) Phillips of Doniphan, Pamela (and Gene) Brunzel of Union, Missouri, and Angela (and Robert) Freeze of Grandin; 2 sisters, Sharon Clark of Granite City Illinois, and Tammy Price of Madison, Ill. 2 brothers, Winston Kiser, Jr., of Arnold, Missouri, and Charles “Joe” Kiser, Sr. of Piedmont, Missouri; 7 grandchildren, Derick (and Kelly) , Cory, Shea (and John), Ryan, Hanna (and Jason) , Molly and Abby; and 6 great-grandchildren, Kasen, Carter, Brennen, Aryiana, Kaydence and Aurel. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 sister, Doris Ann Davis; and 1 grandchild, Orin Freeze. Visitation will be held Thursday evening March 30, 2017, from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will take place Friday afternoon, March 31, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Pete Joplin officiating. The burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery.
