Franklin D. (Frank) Thomas, 83, of Doniphan, Missouri, died Thursday, November 3, 2016, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Mr. Thomas, son of Harry and Dorothy (Rapert) Thomas, was born January 2, 1933, in Doniphan, Missouri. He had retired after a career in the insurance business. Mr. Thomas enjoyed visiting Current River, hunting, gun collecting and trading, riding motorcycles and whitewater rafting. Frank served in the Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany. Frank was a member of the Doniphan Masonic Lodge, VFW post 3485 where he was former Post Commander, and a charter member of the Doniphan Athletic Booster Club and Missouri MASTERS. His favorite moments were sharing “stories” with family, especially his children and grandchildren. On August 25, 1956, he was married to Katherine Snell Thomas at First Christian Church in St. Louis. Surviving are two children, Jim (Robin) Thomas of Poplar Bluff and Janice (Bob) Adams of Doniphan; seven grandchildren; Kacie(Dustin) Turner of Doniphan, Mo., Ashley(Michael) Mertzlufft of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., Emilie(Seann) Howe, Allie Thomas, Zachary Thomas, Alexis Tibbs all of Poplar Bluff and Amber (Kyle) Murray of West Plains, Mo.; five great-grand sons, Kandenn Howe, McCarty Turner, Easton and Wyatt Mertzlufft, and Teagan Murray; and one brother-in-law, Jim(Carolyn) Snell of House Springs, Mo. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Dorothy Thomas and his wife Katherine. Funeral Services for Mr. Thomas will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Harwell officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Doniphan Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5-8 with a Masonic service at 7:30 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Doniphan Football Program.
