Gailya Jean Tucker Johnson, 73, passed away September 17, 2016, in Dallas, TX.
Born November 23, 1942, in Poplar Bluff, MO, to Russell and Jewell (George) Tucker, Gailya was valedictorian of Doniphan High School class of 1959. She graduated magna cum laude from Central College (now known as Central Methodist University) in Fayette, MO, in 1963, and began her career in information technology in Kansas City, where she quickly advanced, becoming the first woman supervisor at AT&T. In 1970 she moved to Dallas, TX, and began working for Bank of America.
Gailya married Lawrence Johnson in 1972, and they had two children, Karen and Scott. She interrupted her career and volunteered to teach computer classes at her children's school for several years, returning to the bank in 1987 and retiring from there in 2009.
Gai is survived by her partner of 25 years, Roy Hammersley; her daughter, Karen Jacot (Jeff) of Boulder, CO; her son, Scott Johnson of San Francisco, CA; and one grandson, Lyle Jacot.
Funeral services will be held at the Edwards Funeral Home of Doniphan on Friday, September 23, 2016 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be from Noon to 2. She will be buried next to her parents in Tucker Cemetery.
