Sylvia Glenna Czerwonka, 84, life-long resident of Doniphan, Missouri, died Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Mrs. Czerwonka, daughter of Fred and Mabel (Cook) Pepmiller, was born March 19, 1932, in rural Ripley County, Missouri. She was retired as an elementary school teacher with the Doniphan R-1 School District after 35 years of teaching and had been a principal at one time at Fairview School. Mrs. Czerwonka was a long-time member of the Doniphan Church of God, teaching Sunday School and serving on various boards. She enjoyed embroidering and taking care of her family. On October 22, 1949, she was married to Lawrence Allen Czerwonka in Pocahontas, Arkansas. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2007. Surviving are 2 children: Charles (and Brenda) Czerwonka and Bernita (and Alton) Thompson, both of Doniphan. 1 daughter-in-law, Judi Czerwonka of Doniphan; 1 sister, Kay (and Bob) Eddings of Idaho; 2 brothers, Fred B. (and Joyce) Pepmiller and Bill (and Charlotte) Pepmiller, both of Doniphan; 3 sisters-in-law, Dorothy Boaz of Tennessee and Sharon Czerwonka of Houston, Texas, and Evalee Czerwonka of Doniphan, MO; 2 brothers-in-law, Lloyd Sullivan of Fairdealing, Missouri and Albert Coan of Poplar Bluff, MO; 9 grandchildren, Fred (and Wendy) Czerwonka, Marty (and Jessie) Czerwonka, Jeremy (and Stephanie) Czerwonka, Scott (and Michelle) Thompson, Salina (and Frankie) Bowen, Steven (and Kim) Thompson, Christopher (and Christine) Czerwonka, Mark (and Angela) Czerwonka and Matthew (and Kristen) Czerwonka; 33 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Gerald Czerwonka, and 2 sisters, June (and O. T.) Burnley and Freda Coan. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning, July 21, 2016, at the Doniphan First Church of God. The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Brother Larry Earl officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Camp Sharon.
