Virgil Dean Gipson, 83, of Doniphan, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016, at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Mr. Gipson, son of Cecil and Thelma (Harlen) Gipson, was born October 11, 1932, in Wichita, Kansas. He was self-employed in the demolition business. Mr. Gipson loved going to auctions and watching boxing matches. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and served during the Korean conflict. He was married to Oleta Stephenson on December 21, 1967, and she survives. Also surviving are 3 children: Alfred Ray Gipson of Poplar Bluff, Sonja (and Scott) Casey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Victoria Sampson of Wichita; 1 sister, Opal Sass of Weldon, California; 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 children, Shannon Rawlings, Kenneth Gipson and Vernon Dale Gipson; and 2 brothers, Cecil Gipson and Delbert Gipson. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at the Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will following at noon in the funeral home chapel with Brother Richard McGonigal officiating. Burial will be in the Wilson Cemetery.
