Mary Lou Smothers, 94-year-old resident of Blytheville, AR and former resident of Doniphan, MO died Tuesday, February 6 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Blytheville. Mrs. Smothers was born April 19, 1912 in Biloxi, MS. She moved to Ripley County in 1957 having moved from Benton Harbor, MI. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Doniphan, Order of the Eastern Star, and was retired from Vitronics. On October 13, 1928, in Kennett, MO she was married to Loren E. Smothers, who preceded her in death August 22, 1991. Also preceding her in death were her parents, David Lee and Nan King Hall; one son, Loren Duane Smothers; one daughter, Delores Peppel; two sisters, Clenamie Carol and Beatrice Ingles; and four brothers, Everett, Ed, Lewis, and David Lee Hall. Survivors include one daughter, Eunice Westbrook of Blytheville, AR; one sister, Myrtle Hill of Benton Harbor, MI; one brother Clyde Hall of St. Joseph, MI; grandchildren, Dr. Tommie Westbrook, Leisa Marsh, Steven Westbrook, Terri Harris, Scott Westbrook, Curt Peppel, Dwayne Peppel, Ronnie Peppel, Cindy Chism, Dr. Loren Smothers, Danny Smothers, and Sandy McCoy; 22 great-grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Graveside services for Mrs. Smothers will be held Sunday, February 11, 2007 at the Doniphan Cemetery at 3:00 P.M. with the Rev. Randy Miller officiating. Visiting will begin at the Edwards Funeral Home at 2:00 P.M.
